Stop Insulting God

You know your identity in Christ. You know you are a child of God; the daughter of the King.

“He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God - children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” John 1:10-13

So why then do you put yourself down? Why do you compare yourself to others and envy what they have? Why do you think you’re not good enough, smart enough, beautiful enough, strong enough? You are His daughter, a masterpiece made perfect in Him, created to do great things. (Ephesians 2:10)

It’s time to stop insulting God by criticizing His masterpiece.

Accept your crown

You are His priceless princess. When you entertain those negative thoughts about yourself, when you give any credence to the lies that the enemy speaks into your life, you are insulting your Heavenly Father who loves and adores you.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
— Ephesians 2:10

He wants you to see the beauty He sees in you. The masterpiece He created. I want you to see it too. Not just your physical beauty, but the beauty of your mind and your emotions. Those things you think are flaws are the very things that make you special. Those things you wish you could change are the very things someone else wishes they could have. They are the things that make you perfectly equipped for God’s purpose for your life.

Your identity and your worth can never be defined by this world because it has no idea what God created you for. BUT GOD knows and He doesn’t make any mistakes. I know it’s hard to not listen to what the world values or what it says is beautiful, but here’s a tip that can help…

Acknowledge the masterpiece in everyone

Encourage yourself by reminding others what God values in them, rather than what the world values. Keep on being kind and complimenting others on their shoes and their smiles, but how about trying to compliment others on the beauty of how they live by the Spirit?

...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control...
— Galatians 5:22-23

Seriously, try it. For the next 7 days try complimenting others when you see them display these attributes. Tell the person who helps you at the store that you appreciate their kindness. Tell a parent at your child’s school that you are inspired by their gentleness or tell the teacher how you appreciate their self-control. Tell your friends there is beauty in the way they bring joy into your life. Tell someone who is going through a tough time that you are encouraged by their long-suffering.

You get the idea. Compliment them on something other than the outward appearance and the material possessions that the world values. Instead remind them that they are a child of God, loved and cherished by Him.

When you compliment others on how they are living by the Spirit, it gives God glory, because you are acknowledging the beauty in His children. And you know what….the more you start seeing that beauty in others, you’ll start to see it in yourself.

Do you consider yourself a masterpiece?
